Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the NFL.
The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
